12 days. 230 miles. Over £21,000 raised!

Matt Maynard has completed his Wellyman Walking challenge, raising more than £21,000 for the Tom Maynard Trust and reaching Colwyn Bay Cricket Club on schedule.

With the support of over 250 donators, Matt comfortably crossed his target of £20,000 with the money raised going towards a children's cricket net area at the back of Sophia Gardens.

Matt set off on his challenge on 8th October and walked 230 miles in 12 days through Wales, scaling the Welsh three peaks Pen y Fan, Snowdon and Cadair Idris in the process.

He reached Colwyn Bay Cricket Club earlier this afternoon with his daughter Ceri, along with other supporters of the Tom Maynard Trust before enjoying a richly deserved drink in the bar.

The walk was the final major fundraising challenge undertaken for the Tom Maynard Trust which was set up nine years ago following the death of Tom and has raised over £500,000 in that time supporting numerous individuals and organisations.

“Thank you to everyone who joined me on the walk and donated to the cause,” said Matt.

“I’m incredibly grateful for the support I’ve received during the challenge from our members, supporters and the wider cricket community.

“It’s been a real adventure in my wellies and I’m feeling a little weary, but I was delighted to find when I woke up this morning that we had reached the target we set out.

“With the money we’ve raised, we can now build a net area in Tom’s name that boys and girls can enjoy and practice their cricket skills safely in, like Tom was able to as a child.

“The challenge has been one I will never forget and now that we’ve reached the target it makes it even more special and all the blisters worthwhile.”

Chief executive, Hugh Morris, added: “It’s been a remarkable effort from Matt and everyone at the club would like to congratulate him on his latest achievement.

“The work put in by Matt and the Tom Maynard Trust over the past nine years has been truly outstanding and helped many people along the way.

“The money raised from this latest challenge will create facilities at Sophia Gardens children can play and practice in safely and a legacy in Tom’s name he would be proud of.

“Work will start on the nets as soon as possible and it will be an honour to have them dedicated to Tom.”
