New Signing Timm van der Gugten Q&A

7 Apr 2016 | Cricket
New signing Timm van der Gugten is very excited to start a new chapter of his career at Glamorgan.
At today's pre-season media day, Timm answered our questions:
  1. What attracted you to Glamorgan?
I first came into contact with Hugh and came over and watched a few games last year. I met a few people, and really enjoyed the vibe over here and what they are building towards which is to get promoted to Division 1.
  1. How does it relate to your previous experience?
Well I don't have a great deal of first-class experience, but obviously the conditions are going to be very different over here. With the new ball and just different surroundings so I am looking forward to getting stuck in and learning from everyone that have been here for longer.
  1. How would you describe yourself as a bowler?
A pretty attacking one. I like to pretty much bowl as much as I can and try getting into the batters face a bit, so that's what I'll try and do.
  1. Which form of the competitions do you enjoy the most 50 over or T20?
I like them all to be honest. They have all got different aspects that I enjoy, I am probably looking forward to most of the four day comp.
  1. How often are you expecting to be in the first team?
To be honest with you I am not sure. Firstly I would like to push myself to get into the first team and then play as many games as I can and I am sure that they will look to rotate a bit more this year compared to last year. And I've just got to play it by here and do as the best as I can when I get the opportunity.
  1. You have come here after the T20 World Cup, did you enjoy it?
Yea, I loved it. It was a great campaign we were there for four weeks in total. Unfortunately we didn't get to play as much cricket as we would've liked and unfortunately we didn't get through to the Super 10, but it was a great experience. It's always an amazing time in India and the culture's completely different and the people are amazing as well so I loved it.
  1. You've got a few wickets as well?
I got a couple of wickets which helps but like I said I would've rather got through to the Super 10 and played against some of those bigger nations. But, personally I was happy with how it went.
  1. Does the associate nations need a bit more experience to play against the bigger nations?
I think so, we don't really get a great opportunity to play many games during the years. For example Holland have only got five more games this whole year. And as a country who are trying to improve their cricket that's not enough cricket for a team to improve. So I think there has to be a restructure and I think the associate nations have to play more cricket.
  1. What do you feel about being able to work with Shaun Tait?
I can't wait. I've had a little bit of experience with Shaun. I was with the Hurricanes in Tasmania just recently and I've worked with him for the last season. He bowls very fast and I am looking forward to learning off him.
