For the second successive day, there will be no play in Glamorgan\'s Specsavers County Championship match at Derby.
There was a distinctly autumnal air this morning at the 3aaa County Ground with spells of drizzle and low cloud, with the outfield still in a soggy state after the spells of torrential rain yesterday.
The umpires, Billy Taylor and Graham Lloyd, made an initial inspection at 9am, and decided to delay the start, scheduled for 10.30am, and to make a further inspection at 11am. After a lengthy inspection of the saturated outfield, and discussions with the two captains, the umpires abandoned play for the day.
Although the County Ground was bathed in sunshine at the scheduled start, parts of the outfield were still extremely wet after Tuesday's heavy rain and the umpires abandoned play for the day after an 11am inspection.
Graham Lloyd and Billy Taylor were concerned that some areas could represent a risk to players's safety and did not think the conditions would improve enough for the match to start.
Derbyshire opening batsman Luis Reece said: " There are places where it's very squelchy underfoot and unfortunately we haven't got the conditions to dry the ground significantly enough to play today.
"We have a duty to play of course but the umpires have a duty to look after the safety of the fast bowlers and the fielders. It's frustrating for the players and the fans but we've got to make sure we are not putting people at risk and potential careers at risk."
With further showers forecast for day three, the prospects are not encouraging and Derbyshire's long wait for a first home win in the County Championship since they beat Leicestershire in September 2014 looks set to continue.
