No play was possible on the second day of the Specsavers County Championship match between Middlesex and Glamorgan at Lord’s because of rain and bad light
Steady rain fell overnight in the St .John’s Wood area and it was still falling this morning as the players arrived at the ground shortly after 9am. With the covers and protective sheets across the square, and the precipitation still falling at 10.15am, the umpires delayed the start of play.
The rain eased soon afterwards and the umpires decided to make a further inspection at 11am, but just as Rob Bailey and Ian Gould were assessing the conditions, the rains returned. With drizzle still falling at 12noon, it was decided to take lunch at 12.30pm and for a further inspection to follow at 1pm.
Conditions though remained damp and gloomy throughout the afternoon and after a series of inspections, tea was taken at 3.30pm with a further inspection at 5pm. But by then the light had deteriorated and play was called off for the day shortly after 5pm.
