Q & A: Mark Webster Ahead Of Fosters Pro Darts

5 Jul 2016 | Events
Welsh darts icon Mark Webster answered our questions ahead of next week\'s Foster\'s Pro Darts Masters event at The SSE SWALEC in Cardiff. Webster said he was excited for the event and the chance to play in front of a home Welsh crowd.

Hi Mark. Are you looking forward to playing in front of a home Welsh crowd at the Foster's Pro Darts Masters?
Yes. It’s always special to play in front of home crowd. It’s a great time for sport in Wales and I want to make sure darts is at the forefront with a good showing in front of the Welsh fans.

As you say, we’re currently in the middle of a great period for Welsh sport, with the football team doing so well and Glamorgan flying high in the T20 competition. How good would it be to be a part of that?
I think it is vital that Welsh sportsmen like myself are able to feed off this feel-good factor in national sport. I certainly hope to win this tournament and take the feeling to other big tournaments this year.

Have you seen any of the Glamorgan players throw before? How do you rate them as dart players?
I haven’t but I know that some of the cricket lads play a lot of darts in their spare time so I wouldn’t underestimate them…

Which of the other players in the Foster’s Pro Darts will pose a threat? Do you back yourself to win?
All of the players in this tournament are top players. Simon Whitlock is a former major champion, Vincent van der Voort is a former major finalist and has won many titles, Devon Petersen is a brilliant talent and Bobby George is a legend. We’re all from different countries too though so I want to win for Wales!

Finally, do you have a message to Welsh darts fans who haven’t got their tickets yet?
This is a night not to be missed. Not only is it a chance to see top class sport but there really isn’t a better night out than a night at the darts. If you’ve not got your tickets yet. Snap them up before it’s too late.
