Former Glamorgan captain Matthew Maynard says he is ‘delighted to be back’ at the Club and that there is \"enormous potential,\" among the county\'s batsmen.
Maynard re-joined Glamorgan as a consultant batting coach and will work closely with the first team as well as the Glamorgan Academy for 100 days a year.
"Seven years has passed very quickly so I'm delighted to be back at this club,” said Maynard.
"The club itself has always been very close to me and there's some great people in charge here now.
"The potential of the young players here is enormous and it's part of my job here to help those players reach their potential. But ultimately it's the players who will drive that. The players have got to take responsibility for their own game.
"I've followed the progress of all the Glamorgan players since I've been away from the club, because it's been close to my heart. So to hopefully effect those performances a little bit will be great.
"I've got to get to know them on a personal level and find out what makes them tick. That's the exciting part of this winter."
The former England and Glamorgan batsman was in charge at Somerset from 2015 to 2017, having also worked with Nashua Titans in South Africa and says he's relishing a return to a more specialised role.
"There's been a lot of pressure having the top job, so to come back as an assistant and help on the batting side is something I'm looking forward to, to channel my energy," he said.
"Over the years I've picked up quite a bit of knowledge at various places, so hopefully I'll be able to bring that to help the young players."
Maynard, who scored a century on his Glamorgan debut as a 19-year old in 1985, is particularly looking forward to teaming up with Aneurin Donald, who he hopes he can take to the next level after working with him briefly as a teenager.
"His ability at that stage was quite frightening, you think 'this guy has got everything to go all the way', and he still has that abundance of talent," said Maynard.
"I've followed his progress as I have done with all the Glamorgan players, and hopefully if I can get those performances up a little bit that would be great."
