Reaction: “We are continually working hard”

Head Coach Robert Croft was disappointed with Glamorgan’s defeat to Gloucestershire but believes the county are working harder than ever to improve results.

Despite acknowledging that the current squad will need experienced faces added to the squad longer term, Croft is focused on instilling confidence into the side and making sure everyone pulls together to finish the season on a positive note.

“These boys are working their butts off, they honestly are,” said Croft. “We’ve got to continue doing that. Two games left to put massive technical changes in would be a big challenge. We’re continually examining them and working with them on how they’re playing and quite clearly, we haven’t quite got the hang of it as far as performances on the field.

‘It’s a disappointing performance, but we are continually working hard. There are some players who have been asked a hell of a lot of this season. Every player on our staff, at some stage or another, has been in our first team through injuries and form etc.

“What we’ve got to do is keep talking about the belief, about when they have played well and reinforcing that because it’s very easy to slip into that negative mindset.

“Hugh [Morris] and I are working closely and assessing the players we currently have with their age and stage, while looking at adding more senior players to compliment them and assist their growth. These players are going through a challenging time and if you look around the counties, a lot of batting sides have had problems,” added Croft.

“We are very aware of the style of cricketer that we want to bring in to our squad and that’s not in any way being critical of our current squad. The idea is to bring in players to assist the development of our squad.

"The players we have, we believe in, it was never our intention for all of them to be playing at the same time. Through international call-ups and injuries we’ve had to play many players who are at the same stage of their careers at the same time."
