Over the past ten years, the Welsh Curriculum has been centred on health, with many campaigns actioned to keep youth groups fit and healthy. Here at Glamorgan Cricket, we are equally as passionate about the promotion of physical well-being.
Working closely with schools, we offer arrange of range of stadium visits for pupils to enjoy, having welcomed schools from throughout the UK over the years. Delivering a long list of inspiring, innovative and low-cost activities; below we detail the many services we are proud to offer the schools of Wales and the rest of the country.
Stadium Tours
Offering a remarkable, behind-the-scenes experience, our Stadium Tours are becoming increasingly popular. Exploring The SSE SWALEC in all its glories, the tour gives visitors an insight into the fascinating and fun world of Cricket.
Kickstarting with an introduction from us in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket, the children will be taught various interesting facts about the sport. Following this, they will be given the chance to dress up, wearing full cricket attire and equipment to head over to the player’s area.
One of the best, most enjoyable parts of the tour is the game of softball cricket in the Indoor School, seeing pupils engage in physical activity in a fun, safe and new environment.
Creating bespoke packages for each school that visits us, be sure that we can cater to specific curriculum needs at primary and secondary level. From promoting healthy lifestyles, playing safe and team work to addressing issues relating to multiculturalism, Welsh identity and local history; our visit packages are diverse to say the least.
In addition to the tours being rich in activities, they are also come at a competitive price of £5 per pupil.
Andrew Hignell of Glamorgan Cricket, said, “The Stadium tour provides a fascinating and unique opportunity for people to see behind-the-scenes at the home of Glamorgan County Cricket Club and the world’s 100th Test Match venue.
"For older visitors, the tour helps to evoke many pleasing memories of watching Glamorgan and other cricket teams at the Cardiff ground, as well as linking in with many aspects of local history and the wider development of Cardiff as a city.
“For younger visitors, the tour provides an inspiring and motivational glimpse of everything associated with professional sport as well as what life is like at an international sports ground and a venue which hosts other major events.
"The visit to the Media Centre, Museum and pavilion complex can also be tailored to meet the needs of their curriculum, whilst a fun skills-drills session in the Indoor School can also be incorporated.”
Transition Days
Whilst a great day out for any year group, we at Glamorgan Cricket are seeing more and more teachers using our facilities for Transition Days; primarily for Year 6 groups. These days include everything in the Stadium Tours packages with the addition of an extended skills drills and play session; a great way for children to make new friends in an active way.
Having recently invested in a Stadium Tour for their pupils, a teacher from Mount Stuart Primary School, Cardiff, was eager to promote her experience.
“Our Year 6 pupils really enjoyed themselves and the range and timing of activities was just right. For many, the highlight was going into the Dressing Rooms and TV commentary boxes” she said.
