To make the most of the opportunity presented by the ICC Champions Trophy 2017 to promote Wales to the rest of the world, the International Cricket Council has confirmed that Visit Wales will become a Local Venue Partner.
Funded through the Welsh Government, Visit Wales’ partnership with ICC will include branding and on-ground support at the Cardiff-based matches during the 18-day tournament which will be held across three venues and will feature the top eight teams in a short, sharp and competitive format.
ICC Chief Executive David Richardson said about the partnership: “The association with Visit Wales is important for the ICC. The backing of cities, regional and national government is crucial if the event is to really have an impact beyond the field of play and of course it is a wonderful opportunity to promote Cardiff and Wales to the rest of the world and the hundreds of millions of fans who will be watching.
“The ICC Champions Trophy is a quality tournament which will see the world’s best players in action at some of the most iconic cricket grounds in the U.K. including Cardiff and I know the city and the whole of Wales will do the sport proud.”
Economy Secretary, Ken Skates, said: “This is a fantastic opportunity for us to showcase Wales as the eyes of the world will once again be on us as we host another major global event and welcome some of the world’s best players to Cardiff.”
The ICC Champions Trophy 2017 will see in action the top-eight sides on the MRF Tyres ICC ODI Team Rankings as on 30 September 2015. A total of 15 matches will be played across three venues from 1-18 June.
