Glamorgan took a winning draw away from Headingley, with centuries from Billy Root and Chris helping set up a big chase before Yorkshire held firm to secure their share of the points.
Putting on an unbeaten 212 with skipper Chris Cooke, who also reached his own century during a club-record 5th wicket stand against Yorkshire, the former Yorkshire youngster reached his 6th first-class century, and fourth for Glamorgan, as he helped his team set up what would've been a memorable victory.
“Personally it was great to come here and put a performance in, but more importantly for the team we can be really proud of what we’ve achieved. It’s always tough to come to Headingley and it’s a shame we couldn’t quite get over the line there, and about the snow, but we’ll take a lot from this game.
“Since I was a little boy I always wanted to play here, so it’s nice to have some joy here, really nice to score some runs."
In a fairy-tale moment, and one likely to be talked about for many Christmases to come, Billy reached his century off the bowling of Joe, a man with a Test match career-best of 5/8 and with the eyes of county cricket on them, Billy held his cool to reach the magical milestone.
“Joe is a far better bowler than people sometimes give him credit for, you’ve just got to play him like any other decent off-spinner. I was more focussed on what I was doing rather than on batting against my brother, at that point he’s doing his best to get me out and I’m doing my best for him not to, fortunately I came through that.
“It was really enjoyable, there were times when I was close to getting him out, he was close to getting me out, really enjoyable to play against him this week."
After the first game of the season sees Glamorgan take a solid 14 points and sit third in the early stages of Group 3 of the County Championship, Root felt the progress his side made in recent games is showing the progress they are making.
“For us it shows that, with good performances against Somerset (in a friendly) and here against good sides, all the hard work we’ve put in over the winter is coming good now.”
