"We must stay strong and united" - A message from Hugh Morris

31 Mar 2020 | Cricket

There’s no other way to describe it – we are facing one of our biggest ever challenges. And whilst we face uncertainty, there are two things we can still rely and depend on to unite us all – our passion for cricket, and our fiercely proud Welsh heritage.

I’d like to send a message of reassurance to those who love our club, that we are still very much here, albeit at a reduced capacity. We are much indebted to our loyal members, supporters and wonderful team of staff for showing such resilience in these times. You are at the heart of everything that we do, and I’d like to thank you for the unwavering support you have shown so far and continue to show each day.

With very heavy hearts we announced last Friday that our business will enter a period of furlough from 1st April. This is not a route we have chosen to take easily. This difficult decision was made with one notion in mind - the future stability of the club – and, it is the right decision to take. Cricket is faced with a situation we’ve not encountered before, and with impacts never seen before in peacetime.

It is what we do in this period that perhaps matters the most. Now is the time to feel inspired, to hone skills and to seek improvement. This time is a chance for us all to reflect on our passions and our motivations.

For us as a club, it’s time for us to stay united. Our company is built on the values of ‘team, respect and hwyl’ and whilst these are always important values to us, they are more so now than ever.

If we all stay committed to these things, there is no doubt in my mind that we will get through this. We’ll build on our strengths and our commitment to cricket, so we can look forward to cheering at Sophia Gardens again.

In the meantime, please stay safe and stay strong.

Best wishes

Hugh Morris
