With Finals Day looming on Saturday, Glamorgan Batsman Colin Ingram is determined not to look beyond their semi-final clash with the Birmingham Bears.
The Bears defeated Surrey in a thrilling quarter-final on Friday night and will prove stern opposition for the Welsh County but a win against the Midland’s side would set up a blockbuster Final against either Hampshire or Notts Outlaws.
“We’ll be focusing on that first game,” said Ingram. “The second one might be in the back of your mind but for me it’s about making sure we do things right, enjoy the occasion and make sure we give ourselves a great chance to win that semi-final.
“From there it’s a quick turn around and hopefully that confidence you get from winning the first game kicks you through the rest of the day.”
Glamorgan have not been to Finals Day for thirteen years, however have reached the quarter-finals of the competition in three of the last four years and Ingram believes the game’s shortest format plays to the team’s strengths.
“It brings out the best in us and seems to suit our different personalities back in the changing room. We get to express ourselves and we’ve enjoyed some good form. When you play well it builds a bit of confidence and we’re a confident group now and we know our skills.
“We’ve all just really enjoyed it and got some really positive results over the last couple of years and it’s kicked us on to the next level.
“Last year we were extremely disappointed to crash out in the quarter-finals so the whole squad is excited and ready to get up there.
The big hitting left-hander has struck 30 sixes in this year’s competition, breaking his own record for the most sixes in a single season in the NatWest T20 Blast and is hoping to add to his tally on Saturday.
“It would be nice and it’s something that’s been a bit of a joke in the dressing room with the boys and they’ve had a good laugh about it but for me it’s about playing well. If I play well the sixes come and it’s not something I particularly focus on.
“If I can spend some time in the middle and face enough balls I know those sixes will come and I can put in a performance to get us in a good position in the game.”
