Winning Breeds Confidence For Radford

Toby Radford believes the winning feeling generated by four back-to-back LV= County Championship triumphs is driving a positive atmosphere in the Glamorgan dressing room.
Head coach Radford, who saw his charges romp to victory at over Leicestershire at The SSE SWALEC on Thursday, said rotating his squad might prove difficult with morale at an all-time high. Glamorgan currently sit 3rd in Division Two, with a game in hand on promotion rivals Surrey.

Graham Wagg once again starred for the hosts, smashing 94 off 113 balls to drag the Welsh county to a respectable first innings total. His uncompromising spell of 12-4-15-2 in the final innings then helped seal the 137-run victory.

And Radford confirmed competition for places is rife, after Andrew Carter's arrival on-loan from Nottinghamshire boosted his bowling options.

He said: No players want to be left out of a winning side. Everyone is enjoying the atmosphere and the camaraderie of playing in a winning team. If we do get into a situation where we need to rotate we now have an extra bowler.

Radford's was also confident a promotion bid could be launched in the second half of the season, should the Glamorgan squad stay injury-free.

Our promotion chances are very good but we have to keep everyone fit. We've got a very small squad and it [the promotion race] will be a test of our mental and physical capacity.

But when you're playing well and the adrenaline is pumping, you just want to play another game so I think the lads will be chomping at the bit.

Captain Jacques Rudolph also earned the praise of his coach after his stolid knock of 74 from 230 balls set the platform for the win.

He added: Jacques is a good tactician with lots of experience, he's got a very calm head but he's also a real battler and when we needed that, when we were 100/6, he used all of his grit and his experience to put together a fantastic innings and allow Waggy and Salter to bat around him. He is a very good man manager as well.

The next county championship game sees Glamorgan travel to Chesterfield on July 6 to take on struggling Derbyshire
