“This was undoubtedly one of the best visits we have ever made. All of our pupils agreed, and they had a super time." - Teacher from Sunnybanks School, Lydney

SCHOOL GROUP VISITS
The behind-the-scenes tours of Glamorgan Cricket’s headquarters have become very popular and comprises an introductory chat and explanation about cricket in the Museum and Learning Centre at the Stadium before a chance to dress-up and wear the equipment used by players, as well as visits to the players area and the Media Centre, plus skills drills and a game of softball cricket in the Indoor School.

At just £5 per pupil/student, the tour represents fantastic value for money, and we can tailor the visit to any specific curriculum needs including healthy lifestyles, playing safe or playing as a team, as well as issues relating to multiculturalism and sport at the international stage, Welsh identity, or local history whilst various literacy, numeracy and PSE-based activities can also be integrated into the tour.

“An excellent visit with very clear and well-presented information. There was plenty to do for the pupils. Overall a very positive experience. Well done!” TEACHER FROM THE GRANGE, MONMOUTH.

Watch our Cricket Community Development Officer, Ed Smart explain what schools can expect from their visit to the home of Welsh cricket.

TRANSITION DAYS OR YEAR GROUP INTEGRATION DAYS
A number of schools have brought groups of Y6 or Y7 pupils to the Stadium for a Transition Day activity or for a Year Group integration activity. These follow a series of activities, similar to the Stadium Tour above. However, this package, again at just £5 per pupil/student, has an extended skills drills and play session, undertaken in a fun environment as the youngsters make new friends.

“It was a great opportunity for our pupils to use the indoor nets at Glamorgan Cricket and to train alongside some of the professionals!” TEACHER FROM YSGOL PLASMAWR.

INTER-SCHOOL SOFTBALL CRICKET COMPETITIONS
Glamorgan Cricket and Cricket Wales hosts a number of inter-school competitions, from Year 4 and above, allowing pupils to play games of softball cricket in the National Cricket Centre, thereby helping to develop the core, multi-sports skills required for young people to be physically literate. There is also an opportunity to have a brief glimpse of the facilities at the home of Wales’ only professional club.

“My Year 5 class really enjoyed themselves – they were all buzzing by the time they got back to school and asked if they could play more cricket at school.” TEACHER FROM RHWS PRIMARY SCHOOL

ON MATCH DAYS (April to September)
 WATCH AND PLAY/WRITE/COUNT

Glamorgan Cricket offers a range of numeracy and literacy packages, at just £3 per pupil, directly linked to the match action. There will also be fun skills drills sessions in the National Cricket Centre plus a chance to play softball cricket on the outfield during the lunch interval, before forming the Guard of Honour when the players return to action.

Besides supporting Maths and English, a match-day visit could support other subjects. Pupils from Birchgrove Primary School in Cardiff recently made a visit and then produced a song about their experiences:

“Your package of activities allowed the pupils to become fully engaged with the match. They all loved playing on the pitch and forming the Guard of Honour.” TEACHER FROM EVESWELL PRIMARY SCHOOL, NEWPORT.

TICKET PACKAGES FOR SCHOOL GROUPS
The Altodigital Family Stand has been specially set aside for families and school groups and over the course of the past few seasons, accompanied groups have been able to attend one-day matches, including the all-action floodlit games held during the summer evenings in June and July.

“Your package of 40 tickets at £50 was great value and the morning after the T20 game, the only thing the pupils were talking about in the playground was watching the cricket match!”  TEACHER FROM YGG YSTALYFERA

OPPORTUNITIES AT INTERNATIONAL GAMES
Like previous years there will be opportunities for schools to assist with player mascots plus guards of honour, as well as discounted ticket packages. Opportunities for 2019 will be released soon.

“For many of the pupils, attending the Champions Trophy matches was their first experience of a live sporting event in a stadium and they were blown away by the atmosphere and entertainment.” TEACHER FROM TREORCHY COMPREHENSIVE SCHOOL.
