August 2024 saw Ned Leonard, the 22 year-old seam-bowler join Glamorgan on loan from Somerset for the remainder of the season, before agreeing terms with the Welsh county for 2025 and 2026.
Born in London and educated at Millfield School, the right-arm batter and fast-medium bowler played age-group cricket for Middlesex before joining Somerset’s Academy in 2018. Having also made his 2nd XI debut for Somerset that summer, Ned secured his first professional contract with the West Country side in September 2020 having also played for the England U19s.
Ned, who has played for Bridgwater CC in the West of England Premier League and has Welsh grandparents, had taken three first-class wickets, plus thirteen in List A cricket at the time of his loan move to Glamorgan. He duly made his debut for the Welsh county at Derby.
Commenting on his loan move to Glamorgan, Ned said: “I’m really excited to have joined Glamorgan for the rest of the season with some potential game time to try and contribute to promotion.”
Glamorgan Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace added: “We’re looking forward to Ned joining up with us until the end of the season. He’s a talented young fast bowler with high potential that will add to our bowling stocks for the run in to the end of the County Championship.”
