Cardiff Metropolitan University final year student Tom Cullen has been rewarded with a Glamorgan development contract until the end of the current season, after making his first team debut at Chester-le-Street in June and impressing in second team performances in recent seasons.
Cullen has been training with the first team squad since the winter as he completes the final units of his degree at University.
Tom¹s first-class debut came in April 2015 against Gloucestershire for Cardiff MCCU, who he has represented for the last three years, playing against Glamorgan earlier this season.
“It¹s a dream come true,” said Cullen who stepped in to the Glamorgan team when Chris Cooke missed the trip to Durham.
“I love being in Wales and in Cardiff and everyone has been so good to me since I arrived here three years ago, so I just want to contribute to winning games for Glamorgan."
Mark O’Leary, Cardiff South Wales MCCU Head Cricket Coach and Cricket Lecturer at Cardiff Metropolitan University, said:
“Tom has come through the ideal pathway for Cardiff South Wales MCCU. He wasn’t previously affiliated to any county team or any academy and came to university to get a degree. He has performed really well and turned a few heads, which is a great testament to the MCC University scheme. We wish him all the very best.”
