Glam v Notts RLODC

Glamorgan maintained their quest of a place in the knockout stages of the Royal London One-Day Cup with an eight-wicket victory against the Notts Outlaws with a fine bowling and fielding performance seeing the visitors dismissed for 73 in their rain-affected game at Cardiff which was reduced to 23 overs per side.

After a series of inspections, play began at 3pm with Glamorgan naming an unchanged side and opting to bowl first after winning the toss. Lukas Carey and Michael Hogan shared the new ball with Ben Slater and Sol Budinger opening the batting for the Outlaws. Slater swatted Carey through point for four but Hogan maintained his feat this summer of a wicket in his opening over as Budinger miscued a pull and skied a catch into Tom Cullen’s gloves.9-1 then became 13-2 as next over Carey trapped Slater with a fine delivery which nipped back in to the batsman.

James Weighell also struck in his opening over , the fifth of the innings as Matthew Montgomery feathered a catch to Cullen as the Outlaws slipped further to 19-3. It nearly became 20-4 as Lyndon James edged low to gully where a diving Andrew Salter nearly clung onto the ball. In the previous over James had been struck on the helmet by Cooke and after another single he retired for further treatment. Liam Patterson-White duly replaced him but his stay at the crease was a brief one as he chipped Cooke to mid-wicket where Steve Reingold took a smart one-handed catch.

23-4 then became 29-5 as Peter Trego was bowled advancing down the wicket to Salter, before becoming 31-6 as Dane Schadendorf skied a pull to deep mid-wicket where Weighell held the catch. Fateh Singh found the boundary twice before Hogan returned to bowl Hutton with Sam King, a concussion replacement making his way to the middle with the Outlaws on 47-7.

Singh off-drove Hogan to bring up the fifty but eight runs later he miscued another drive against Carey and was caught by Hogan at mid-off. Dane Paterson joined King and opened his account by pulling Carey for six. But Weighell ended the innings in successive deliveries as King miscued a drive and was caught at mid-on by Carlson before Paterson speared the next ball to Salter in the gully as the Outlaws ended on 73.

Hamish Rutherford and Nick Selman began Glamorgan’s innings with the former square-driving Hutton after the pair had began with a brace of singles. Selman also played the same shot against Patterson-White but next over Rutherford was caught and bowled by Paterson. 26-1 saw Reingold make his way to the middle with Selman then inside-edging Tom Barber for four to fine-leg.

The pair worked the ball around as the fifty came up in the 12th over before Selman cover-drove Montgomery for four. The opener then nurdled Hutton to third man for four and two before, with two needed, Reingold departed l.b.w. to Patterson-White before Carlson came in and fittingly struck the winning runs with his side poised to play in the knock-out stages of the competition.
