Alex Horton and Callum Nicholls Given New Contracts

Glamorgan County Cricket Club is delighted to announce the contract extensions of Alex Horton and Callum Nicholls beyond the end of the current season.

Wicketkeeper-batter Alex Horton put pen on paper to extend his stay at Sophia Gardens by a further two years. The 21-year-old Newport-born cricketer came through the Glamorgan Academy and signed his first contract ahead of the 2021 season, before being called up to the England U19's team for the ICC U19 World Cup in 2022.

Securing a spot in the Glamorgan XI halfway through the Vitality Blast season in June this year, Horton became the mainstay of the Club's white-ball competitions, also keeping wickets in all the games he played. His immaculate display behind the stumps, along with an aggressive and counter-attacking batting performance in the Metro Bank One-Day Cup and the Vitality Blast, impressed the Welsh fans as Glamorgan were ever-so-close in making the Vitality Blast quarter-finals.

Callum Nicholls also earns himself a contract extension, as the Llantrisant-born opening batter is set to stay at Sophia Gardens for another season. Callum was signed ahead of the current season in February 2025, and was part of the final two Metro Bank One-Day Cup squads.

Nicholls enjoyed a successful year in the 2nd XI, after having a record-breaking season in New Zealand's Northland Cricket Association League for City Cricket Club in Whangarei. Callum scored a sensational double hundred in a day for Glamorgan 2nd XI against Gloucestershire 2nd XI at Rockhampton towards the end of the season, in a knock which contained twenty six 4s and one 6, as the opening batter carried his bat with 210 not out to his name.

On the contract extensions, Glamorgan Director of Cricket, Mark Wallace said, "It’s great that two of our talented young players will be continuing their development with us.

"Alex broke into the T20 team during last years Blast and will have gained a lot from the experience, while Callum’s first year as a rookie contracted player was topped off with a double century against Gloucestershire in the second team.

"We look forward to them both continuing their progress at the club in 2026."
