The game may have ended in defeat, but there were plenty of smiles on the faces of the Glamorgan Masters and a decent-sized crowd at Newbridge Fields as Bridgend Town won their Twenty20 contest by six wickets.
A selection of former Glamorgan cricketers from the 1980s, 1990s and 2000s donned their whites again at the home of Bridgend Town CC, as the Welsh county's former players helped the local club bring down the curtain on their 175th anniversary summer and a season which has seen the Club win the First Division of the South Wales Premier League.
The Glamorgan Masters batted first after winning the toss, with captain Mike Powell making an unbeaten 27, whilst Ian Thomas - who along with Powell has co-ordinated the formation of a Masters side - chipped in with 23. Adam Harrison also made 22 whilst Dan Cherry made a breezy 20 as the Masters posted 138/7 from their 20 overs.
Bridgend Town then replied with 143/4 with Sam Pearce and Owen Davies each making 23, whilst Alex Jones - another Glamorgan old boy - struck a lusty 20. The Premier League winners for 2015 duly reached their target with over four overs to spare on an afternoon where their ground was bathed in warm September sunshine, and throughout saw former stars Hugh Morris and Steve James, as well as current players Mark Wallace and Dean Cosker mingle with the crowd of around 200 , whilst members of the Glamorgan Academy undertook a raffle as part of their fund-raising activities ahead of their winter tour to the Middle East.
