Head Coach Robert Croft wants his Glamorgan side to kick-on from last season’s Vitality Blast competition when they reached the Finals Day for the first time in 13 years.
The former Glamorgan and England all-rounder is also keen for his side to maintain their 'underdog' mentality when they take the field, starting with Hampshire on Friday Night at The Ageas Bowl.
"Expectations are for us to play well in it [Vitality Blast],” said Croft. "We've seen progression over the last two seasons in this competition with a quarter-final two years ago and obviously reaching finals-day last season. We'd like to see a similar quality of performance this year and then more progression.
"I'm sure everyone will but from our perspective it is up to us to challenge one another to get better, we can't relax and rest on our laurels. When we first started we were underdogs, but over the past couple of seasons we've earnt respect although we intend on keeping the underdog mentality."
Big hitter Colin Ingram takes over the white-ball captaincy for this year's Vitality Blast on the back of last season's competition where he finished as the top six-hitter, clearing the rope 59 times.
Glamorgan's Australian duo Shaun Marsh and Usman Khawaja are also expected to feature at the top of the order with Marsh scoring two centuries in the Aussies recent ODI series against England, meanwhile the latter rewrote the record books as Khawaja became the first Glamorgan player to score three centuries in his first three Specsavers County Championship games.
With three proven international batsmen in the side, Croft is excited by the options he has available but also the competition for places in the middle order it creates.
"Those three guys [Khawaja, Marsh, Ingram] are all used to batting at the top of the order at a very high level so there's a good chance those guys will be will be walking out there in those positions.
"I'm very comfortable now with the experience our younger players have picked up in this form of the game so there will be opportunities in the middle order."
The Welsh county will be without Marchant de Lange for the start of the Vitality Blast after the South-African pace bowler reaggravated an existing hamstring injury during his rehabilitation.
"It's disappointing because he picked up a hamstring strain some time back. The support staff have been working tirelessly to get [de Lange] fit again, but he's had a bit of a set-back and I'm managing the squad without him for the short term".
