With only 25 days until the only Vitality IT20 of the summer against Pakistan and the Cricket World Cup just around the corner, Glamorgan's Chief Executive Hugh Morris believes the eyes of the world will rightfully be focused on Cardiff.
Cricket supporters in Wales will be able to enjoy a feast of international cricket this summer when Sophia Gardens hosts five matches across May and June.
On Sunday, 5th May over the May Day Bank Holiday, England face Pakistan in the only Vitality IT20 of the summer.
Fans have flocked to Cardiff to watch England matches in recent years with the 2017 International T20 against South Africa and the two internationals against India and Australia last year all played in front of raucous sell-out crowds.
The ICC Cricket World Cup then comes to town in June as Sophia Gardens stages four matches during the competition, including England against Bangladesh on Saturday, 8th June.
Supporters will also be able to see an exciting Afghanistan team in action for the first time ever on Welsh soil when they play Sri Lanka on Tuesday, 4th June.
Hugh Morris, Chief Executive at Glamorgan, is delighted by the prospect of five top quality cricket matches happening right in his hometown of Cardiff.
“Over recent years we’ve seen a real thirst for international cricket in Wales so we’re delighted to host the only Vitality IT20 of the summer and four matches in cricket’s showpiece event, the ICC Cricket World Cup.
“The world’s finest cricketers will be in action across the games and we’re again expecting them to thrill crowds with exciting, action packed cricket.
“Last year, England played in two thrilling matches in Cardiff and we’re hoping they continue their winning run at Sophia Gardens against a very talented Pakistan side who are ranked as the number one ranked IT20 team in the world.
“England are then back here to face Bangladesh in the ICC Cricket World Cup which is a massive match for us, but we’re also excited to see other teams in action in Wales such as Afghanistan who will bring their own unique brand of cricket to Wales for the very first time.
“It’s going to be quite some summer so don’t miss out on the action by securing your tickets.”
