Glamorgan make one change for Somerset friendly

Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for Glamorgan’s three-day friendly against Somerset in Taunton tomorrow.

There is one change to the squad that played Cardiff UCCE earlier this week with wicket-keeper batsman Tom Cullen replacing veteran seamer Michael Hogan who is rested after taking combined figures of 2/33 from 25 overs against the students.

The Welsh county will be looking to build on the draw against Cardiff UCCE which saw players hit form ahead of tomorrow’s friendly against Somerset and the LV= County Championship opener against Yorkshire on Thursday, 8th April.

Billy Root (59) and Kiran Carlson (48) both batted fluently in the first innings, while all-rounder Dan Douthwaite took five wickets in the match against his former side, including a hat-trick spread out over two innings.

View from Dan Douthwaite:

“It was a very hard-fought game against Cardiff UCCE. We tried to take the tougher route of bowling first on that deck to see how we could do in those conditions and to be fair to them they batted very well in that first innings. On that kind of pitch, in those conditions we bowled ok at times.

“I noticed a big difference in my bowling from the first innings to the second. I had a good chat with the coaches in between innings and there were a few things to work on. Simplify a few things and not try and bowl magic balls and that kind of paid off for me as the match wore on. I felt a lot more comfortable and rhythmical.

“If you look back on last year and the way we went about things in Somerset it didn’t turn out the way we wanted to. We’re not under any illusions and know it’s going to be a serious step up from this week and something we’re going to have to go into with our A game if we’re going to be competitive. It’s something we’ve talked about in our debrief and we’re relishing it and if we play the kind of cricket we’ve spoken about over the winter, it should put us in good stead for tomorrow and Headingly in a couple of weeks.”
