Glamorgan v Middlesex Panthers: One-Day Cup Head-to-Head

13 Jun 2016 | Cricket
Glamorgan will look to continue their outstanding form in white ball cricket as they meet the Middlesex Panthers in their next game in the Royal London One-Day Cup, at The SSE SWALEC on Tuesday June 14th, with the 50 overs contest scheduled to start at 2pm (Gates open – 1pm)

Glamorgan’s stunning victory over the Kent Spitfires by three wickets under the DLS Method, has kept the Welsh county on top of the group table, and with the Essex-Somerset match ending in a tie, Glamorgan have also got a slender points lead over the teams below them.

The Welsh county met the Middlesex Panthers at Cardiff on 26th July 2014 with Jacques Rudolph and Jim Allenby sharing an opening stand of 136 to lay the foundations for a comprehensive seven-wicket victory, achieved with 13.4 overs to spare.

This followed another stellar bowling performance by Michael Hogan who struck in his first over as Dawid Malan was bowled shouldering arms, before deceiving Chris Rogers, his fellow countryman, into miscuing a catch to mid-on, and then having Eoin Morgan caught behind off a bottom edge. David Lloyd also claimed a trio of wickets as the Panthers completed a below par total

Glamorgan won again when the two teams met at Cardiff in 2013 in a contest reduced to 25 overs per side because of rain. Chasing a target of 154 to win, Middlesex nosedived to 32/5 in the eighth over with Michael Hogan bowling the over of the night to Joe Denly as the tall Australian beat him on the outside edge from four of the first five deliveries before inducing a fatal outside edge from the hapless batsman with the sixth ball.

Both Chris Cooke and Murray Goodwin took superb diving catches in the deep as Glamorgan completed a home and away double over the London-based side having earlier in the season beaten Middlesex by 26 runs at Lord’s with Marcus North posting a career-best 137* whilst Will Bragg completed an assertive 62.

Middlesex’s most recent victory in a List A game at Glamorgan’s headquarters came in a 50 overs contest in August 2009 when a century from Nick Compton guided the Panthers to victory by 63 runs.
