John Derrick Fundraising Dinner Great Success

9 Dec 2016 | Cricket
The SSE SWALEC hosted a memorable occasion last night as Welsh cricket gathered at Glamorgan\'s headquarters in support of John Derrick.

Over 500 people were in attendance, with 15 cricket clubs represented, plus Glamorgan players past and present along with many other supporters who wanted to show their gratitude for the immeasurable impact John has had on Welsh cricket over the years as a player and coach.

The former Glamorgan Coach and current Cricket Wales Performance Director suffered a significant stroke lie attack last summer and, the subsequent discovery of a brain tumour followed by surgery and ongoing treatment have taken a significant toll on his health and physical capabilities. Glamorgan CCC, the PCA Benevolent Fund and Cricket Wales joined together to raise money for John to help deal with the lasting effects of his ordeal.

Hosted by Phil Steele, with guest speaker Geoff Miller OBE entertaining the audience, the night ended with an auction as Robert Croft encouraged further generosity from the audience. Whilst the final pounds and pennies are still being counted a significant sum has been raised from the event.
