Glamorgan will have plenty to contend with when they meet Kent Spitfires at The SSE SWALEC on Friday night from 6.30pm but the visiting captain will undoubtedly pose a threat.
Aside from the natural talents of Sam Billings and Daniel Bell-Drummond, plus the in-form Joe Denly, in the Kent top four, Sam Northeast has been hugely impressive in T20 cricket in the past season or two.
Northeast was the long-time leading run scorer in last season’s competition, before falling behind James Vince and Michael Klinger in the final standings. But the Kent skipper still managed to score 641 runs despite Kent losing in the quarter-finals to Lancashire.
He helped the Spitfires top the South Group last season and has been a model of consistency this time around too. Northeast smashed a blistering 64 off just 49 balls in Kent’s landslide One-Day Cup and scored 63 albeit in a losing cause against Sussex Sharks last Friday night.
Northeast often slots in at number three in the Kent order, with New Zealander Tom Latham joining him, Billings, Bell-Drummond and Denly.
The 26-year-old favours the leg side, with a trademark flick off his pads through mid-wicket often bringing him lots of runs. He's scored 1,630 career T20 runs at a healthy strke rate (135.15) and is adept against both pace and spin.
