PORTER'S CONFIDENCE AHEAD OF T20 CUP TEST

16 May 2025 | Cricket

With Saturday’s Vitality T20 Women’s County Cup trip to Brecon nearly here, Gemma Porter and the team will make the trip in a confident mood, while acknowledging that Lancashire Thunder - fully professional opposition for Glamorgan - will likely offer the toughest test of the season so far.

Following the last round win over Sussex Sharks, Gemma said, “I thought it was a very, very strong performance. I thought we set the batting up beautifully. Our openers went out there, hit hard in the powerplay, and created a base for us.

“Then me, Gamo [Bethan Gammon], everyone in the middle just ran really, really hard, hit the boundaries when needed, and just set it up perfectly.

“As a bowling unit, I thought we kept it really tight, took our chances very well, and just restricted them from the beginning. Can’t ask for much more, really.

And the prospect if this weekend, with free entry for all at Christ College in Brecon and Lancashire Thunder standing in the way of a place in the Quarter Finals, the mood is strong.

“I think we’ve been strong every single round, Gemma told us. “We've scored runs, everyone’s contributed, there are no weak links. And I think if we just do our basics really well, it’ll be a tough game for them.

“We know they’re strong – they’re a professional side, we know that – but we’ve covered a lot of ground here as a team. If we keep going, it'll be a really good game.”

Head Coach Rachel Priest has also been happy to wee continued momentum across all units of her team, with the reward of Saturday’s trip nearly here.

“We take each game in the County Cup as it comes to us – and now we have another game against Lancashire as well’” she said.

“I’m pleased that the girls are playing so well. The bowling and fielding in particular has been clinical. After the last game we spoke about the fact we’re enjoying that different people are stepping up each game. It just means that a lot of our players are in really good form at the moment. It’s exciting to see as a coach.

“Anything can happen in T20s. We’re just going into it with the same mindset of executing our skills really well and working to minimise how impactful the other teams can be on us. We know it’s going to be a challenge on Saturday, but were really excited for it.

“For the trip to Brecon, it’ll be the first time for most of the team to play there. It’s actually the school that Eve [Jackson] goes to. So it’s kind of exciting for us to go there – and to play in other places in Wales as well.”
