England opener, Phil Salt expressed his excitement at being back at Sophia Gardens during England’s practice session on Tuesday, just over 24 hours before the opening Vitality IT20 Series match against South Africa on Wednesday night.
“I take a lot of pride in playing in Wales,” he said. It’s always great to come back here to a place that holds a lot of good memories for me.
“Obviously last year was a huge honour to become the first Welsh-born captain to lead England on Welsh soil and to get the win against the Aussies as well was satisfying.

“The atmosphere is always brilliant. You can feel the fans here getting right behind you and hopefully we can get another win for them against South Africa.
“We have a T20 World Cup coming up early next year so these games are vitally important, and South Africa are a quality team so it should be a good contest.”
The England vs South Africa match starts at 6:30pm, following the DPL Final between Tridents and Pirates at Sophia Gardens.
