Stadium Tour guides - Extra staff needed!

25 Apr 2019 | Community

Following the rapid increase in numbers and the growing popularity of Stadium Tours and Schools Visits to the Club’s headquarters at Sophia Gardens, Glamorgan Cricket is looking to appoint additional people to act as Tour Guides – one through the medium of English, and one through the medium of Welsh.

Over the course of the past twelve months, over 14,000 young people have visited Glamorgan's headquarters, and with numbers set to rise even higher during 2019 and beyond, opportunities exist to join the current team of tour guides and play a part in further promoting Glamorgan Cricket as the only professional cricket club in Wales.

The appointed person would be responsible for the following:

  • Meeting and greeting groups when they arrive at Sophia Gardens and to ensure that everything is in place for their visit, especially the coaching session in the Indoor School in the National Cricket Centre, liaising with other members of the Community team, and Glamorgan staff.
  • Undertaking a check before the group arrives to ensure rooms are available and open, besides liaising with the Operations Department (or Security staff at weekends and out-of-hours) to confirm safe access and movement around the Stadium.
  • Delivering the information-related aspects of the tour, especially the welcome talk on the interactive whiteboard in the Museum.
  • Saying farewell when groups depart and ensuring they safely leave Sophia Gardens.
  • Dealing with any medical emergencies or other incidents which may take place during the visit
  • Liaising with teachers and group leaders, answering any general questions they may have, and gathering any feedback.
  • Providing feedback to Glamorgan staff about the tour.
  • A willingness to work at weekends or evenings.

Essential skills

  • Friendly disposition and calm manner.

  • A clear and strong voice, allied to excellent communication skills and being comfortable speaking in front of people.

  • Highly developed inter-personal skills and a good sense of humour.

  • Good IT skills and competence with interactive equipment.

  • Effective team-working skills

  • Knowledge of the history of Glamorgan CCC and Sophia Gardens.

  • DBS Checked compliance (this can be arranged).

  • An ability to speak Welsh is essential for Welsh-speaking groups

Applicants should send, in the first instance, an email with their CV to museum@glamorgancricket.co.uk  . A more detailed job description is also available on request.
