Wales Women travel to Birmingham on Sunday, 25 April to play the first of their fixtures in the T20 Cup.
The structure of the competition has been amended due to the Covid-19 restrictions that are still in place across the country.
On match days, teams will play two T20 fixtures against the same team to comply with government rules of outdoor activity of up to 30 adults.
The pandemic has meant that many players have not had the same level of preparation as they would usually expect due to the limits on meeting indoors that were in place over the winter.
Many of Wales’ side are not considered as elite players which meant that they were unable to access indoor facilities.
The squad managed to have a few indoor sessions in October and November but when the second full lockdown was announced, training came to an abrupt end and players had to wait until early April when they could resume nets outdoors on a one to one basis.
However, due to the rollout of professional contracts for domestic players last year, some players within the squad have benefitted from their elite status and were able to train with the Western Storm squad, including Danielle Gibson, Alex Griffiths and Lauren Parfitt.
Sophia Smale, Bethan Gammon and Sara Phillips were also involved through the Academy set up.
Despite differences in preparation, the team are looking forward to getting back together on the field and looking to start their campaign with victory against a strong Birmingham Bears side.
Head Coach Aimee Rees said: “The first game of the season is always exciting. We haven’t had the preparation we would like as a group but we are really grateful to be out there playing cricket and are looking forward to the competition”
The games are being played at Edgbaston Foundation Ground behind closed doors.
