Yorkshire leg-spinner Adil Rashid could feature for England in the fourth and final Test versus Pakistan at The Oval on Thursday – meaning he would miss the NatWest T20 Blast quarter-final against Glamorgan.
England Head Coach Trevor Bayliss has admitted he is 'very' tempted by the idea of drafting in Rashid, possibly playing two spinners after Moeen Ali impressed during England's 141-run win over Pakistan at Edgbaston last week.
Rashid played three Tests in the United Arab Emirates in the winter and has been included in the England squad for the first three Tests of the Investec Series against Pakistan, without being named in the team.
"Very," Bayliss said when asked how tempted he was by the thought of Rashid playing.
"I think we saw last year at The Oval, the wicket had a bit in it for everyone. Nathan Lyon bowled very well there, got some spin and bounce out of the wicket. I've thought Rashid's been a chance for the last two or three Tests that we've played. At some stage he will get an opportunity.
"Obviously, we are going to the subcontinent, so he's probably the guy who will get the first opportunity there. Having a legspinner will help when the wicket is turning, that we can knock over the tail a bit easier."
Rashid's omission from the quarter-final could come as a further blow to Yorkshire ahead of Thursday's clash with Glamorgan. Travis Head has been called up to the Australia squad for their tour of Sri Lanka and England trio Joe Root, Gary Ballance and Jonny Bairstow will all be on Test match duty.
