Head coach Matt Maynard has named a 13-man squad for Glamorgan’s home fixture against Middlesex tonight (Friday, 26th July).
Glamorgan suffered a disappointing 97-run defeat to Surrey last night, after strong fielding and bowling held Surrey to 141 all out.
Michael Hogan drops out of the squad after sustaining a thigh injury at The Kia Oval, with Lukas Carey set to make his first appearance in the competition this season in his place.
Spinner Andrew Salter recorded career best figures of 4-23 from his four overs, as he took the key wickets of Finch and Clarke to help restrict Surrey’s potent batting line-up.
“It’s always a great feeling playing in front of a packed house at the Oval, and to pick up a career-best was awesome.
“I owe some of it to the lads out in the field – they were fantastic. Billy’s catch to remove Finch was one of the best I’ve ever seen and really set the tone. It was also nice to work alongside Morgs [Owen Morgan] in the middle overs and build some pressure.
“Our ground fielding was up there with the best efforts I’ve seen from this team. We have to make sure we take these positives from the game forwards.”
While Salter admits that the batting performance was not good enough, he was also keen to move on and the team is itching to get back on the field at Sophia Gardens and taking on a powerful Middlesex side.
“It was obviously not a good batting performance, but we won’t dwell on for too long and we all look forward to getting back on the park tonight in front of our home crowd who have been fantastic.
“Playing Middlesex provides a great opportunity to get the two points and get our campaign rolling. We’re excited at the opportunity to put on the sort of performance we know we can put on. If I do get the chance to bowl at AB de Villiers then it’s a challenge I’d look forward to, and I know this team can perform better than we have shown so far."
