Former Glamorgan wicket keeper Adrian Shaw has been appointed to the Club's coaching team.
Shaw will coach Glamorgan's professional and academy players and will also support Steve Watkin by attending second eleven fixtures.
Adrian has been working with the players on our development programme since September and his infectious attitude and approach has been a positive influence, said Hugh Morris, Glamorgan chief executive.
Following Robert Croft's appointment as Head Coach last month, we identified an opportunity to add to our coaching setup to help raise the standard of batting and wicket-keeping at all levels on the Club's performance pathway. Adrian's coaching and playing experience fits the bill, so we're pleased to extend his role to work with our squad and emerging players.
During his playing days, Adrian Shaw was a key part of the Glamorgan County Championship winning team in 1997. After a number of years as Colin Metson's wicket-keeper understudy, Shaw was promoted to the Glamorgan first team due to his superior batting during the latter half of the 1996 season, following a series of centuries for the 2nd XI.
Shaw hit his career-best 140 against Oxford University at The Parks in 1999 and continued to impress behind the stumps, especially in one match against the West Indian tourists where he deftly stumped Brian Lara for a duck.
Appointed 2nd XI captain in 2002, Shaw later became 2nd XI Coach and continued his good work with the county's emerging players, before succeeding John Derrick as the county's 1st XI coach for the 2007 season. More recently Adrian has returned to support the Glamorgan development programme working with Head of Talent Development Richard Almond and his role will now include supporting Steve Watkin with the 2nd team.
I'm really pleased to increase my involvement with Glamorgan and support the current coaching team of Robert Croft, Steve Watkin, David Harrison and Richard Almond, said Adrian Shaw.
As far as I'm concerned this will always be my club and I've enjoyed being back working with the players on the development programme over the winter.
There's some good young players coming through, so to build on this and help their development towards the first team is great news.
