Timm van der Gugten has been named the 2016 Glamorgan CCC Player of the Year and Championship Player of the Year following his outstanding debut season in county cricket.
The leading wicket taker for the Welsh county, Timm has claimed 73 dismissals in all cricket, including 47 in first-class cricket from 12 games - with one match still to play.
The Netherlands international enjoyed a memorable T20 debut for Glamorgan, taking four of the first six wickets at The Kia Oval as the hosts’ batting line up was left in disarray at 60/7 in round 1 of the competition to help give the Welsh county the perfect start in this year’s competition with an away victory and giving Timm figures of 4-14. - the best-ever on debut by a Glamorgan player
His performances in limited overs cricket continued to reap rewards and he topped the wickets column for Glamorgan with 19 in T20 for the season, finishing 4th in the PCA MVP bowlers chart for the shortest format as well as picking up 7 wickets in the Royal London One-Day Cup.
In spearheading the Glamorgan attack in red ball cricket Timm has taken four five-wicket hauls this season and proven to be an ever-willing bowler for captain Jacques Rudolph, as well as the Club’s leading wicket taker in first-class.
With career best figures of 5-61 against Northants at Swansea his performances in the Specsavers County Championship were recognised with the Championship Player of the Year Award to accompany the overall headline trophy.
Colin Ingram was announced as the One-Day Player of the Year award winner. Despite not featuring in the County Championship this season due to a persistent knee problem, his performances in the NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup have been nothing short of phenomenal.
The 31-year old South African’s exploits with bat and ball have been pivotal to Glamorgan’s success in white ball cricket. Ingram took 9 wickets to go with his 502 runs in the shortest format, which included four half centuries and a blistering 101 at Chemsford to conclude the group stage and become only the fourth centurion for Glamorgan in T20 and finish top overall of the PCA MVP T20 Rankings.
Ingram finished with a combined tally of 869 runs in the NatWest T20 Blast and Royal London One-Day Cup, hitting his fourth century in two seasons in the 50-over format for Glamorgan as well as picking up a further six wickets.
With over 1,000 first-class runs in his first professional season with Glamorgan, Aneurin Donald was rewarded with the Young Player of the Year Award. Donald grabbed the headlines in July with his world record-equaling 234 off 123 balls against Derbyshire at Colwyn Bay, which was the 19-year-olds champagne moment in a memorable season. However, most Glamorgan fans knew about his talents after a number of elegant half-centuries in all formats this season. Later in the summer, against Gloucestershire at Cardiff, he notched up his 1,000th run of the summer and boke Matt Maynard's record for being the youngest-ever Glamorgan batsman to reach this landmark in a first-class season.
Nick Selman collected the 2nd XI Player of the Year Award. Following superb run-scoring in the Second XI, Nick has forced his way into a regular berth in the 1st XI where he has continued to impress with two first-class centuries and two half centuries to his name.
Special recognition awards were presented to Dean Cosker following his retirement after 21 years with Glamorgan and to Aneurin Donald for his world record equaling first-class double century.
The St Helen’s Balconiers will host their Awards event on Monday 26th September, when further player awards will be presented to recognise stand-out milestone achievements impressive youngsters in the Glamorgan Development Programme and for other deserving endeavors.
