Glamorgan Cricket hosted a group of young people from the local Bangladesh community as part of the ‘Cricket for Good’ programme yesterday.
The children, who were joined by star players from the Bangladesh team, took part in a two-hour coaching session, which involved batting, bowling and fielding drills, as well as fun games on the treasured outfield of the Cardiff Wales stadium.
Mark Frost Community & Development Manager at Glamorgan Cricket said:
“We know that getting young people together to play cricket creates a lot of fun, but also using the spirit of cricket and its inherent values which are core to British Values. It teaches young people many life skills especially about respect, fair play and justice.”
Councillor Dilwar Ali, added:
“It is a great pleasure to bring the children into the Cardiff Wales Stadium, thanks to Glamorgan cricket and the ICC for this opportunity which is also excellent news for Cardiff”
The ‘Cricket for Good’ programme has recently been launched by the combined efforts of UNICEF UK, Chance to Shine, and with support from ICC it uses cricket to support learning and promote awareness of the rights of children around the world.
The new education resource is available for any school to download from the ICC website, and contains a six-week, cricket-based curriculum, which combines opportunities for pupils to get active, develop cricket skills, undertake exciting projects and learn about the rights of children everywhere.
