Billy Root was presented with his Glamorgan cap this afternoon at the start of the final session of the second day’s play in the LV=Insurance County Championship match against Yorkshire at Cardiff.
As Billy and his team-mates prepared to take to the field after tea in the televised contest, Head Coach Matthew Maynard gathered the Glamorgan team, plus the support staff together in front of the Sophia Gardens pavilion before Billy was presented with his Glamorgan cap by vice-captain David Lloyd.
His elder brother Joe was also walking out to the middle to resume his innings, but the England captain found time to congratulate his younger brother by sharing a fist-bump just before the pair entered the field of play.
Billy joined Glamorgan from Nottinghamshire in 2019 and during his time with the Welsh county he has already scored four first-class centuries, with his tally including a career-best 229 at Northampton plus a hundred against his native Yorkshire earlier this season at Headingley (as seen in the photo above). Billy also has a List A hundred to his name for Glamorgan, with his current first-class average standing at a healthy 39.85.
