Glamorgan Cricket is pleased to confirm new contracts have been agreed with Will Bragg and David Lloyd to keep both Welsh players at the SWALEC Stadium.
Left-hander Will Bragg has established a regular berth in the top of three of the batting order in the County Championship team and was the only Glamorgan player to end last summer with 1,000 first-class runs.
He has continued his form into 2015 with two first-class centuries in the first five games of the new campaign at Leicester and Canterbury, including a new career-best of 120 against Leicestershire in the opening game of the season. The 28-year-old now has over 4,000 first-class runs to his name and was awarded his Glamorgan cap in April by Robert Croft during the Championship encounter against Surrey at the SWALEC Stadium.
Born in St. Asaph and educated at Darland School and subsequently Shrewsbury School, David Lloyd is a forceful batsman and medium-pace bowler who joined the Glamorgan playing staff in 2012.
Following his Glamorgan first-class debut in September 2012 against Yorkshire at Headingley Carnegie, Lloyd earned an extended run in the Glamorgan side in the second half of 2014 after posting a double-hundred in the Second Eleven Championship and a brisk century in a Second Eleven T20 game. During his time in the 1st XI during 2014 David was also able to showcase his bowling skills, claiming 4/10 against Durham in the Royal London One-Day Cup match at Cardiff, whilst he started this year with an unbeaten maiden first-class 50 against Leicestershire.
It is an amazing feeling to extend my contract, having come through the development system it has been a great journey so far and I believe we're starting to build something which will be progressive and hopefully bring the club silverware in the next few years, commented Will Bragg.
We've got a great mix in the dressing room, a good blend of youth with a few experienced pillars in the team and I think we're beginning to make strides forward.
For me personally I've started the season with a couple of hundreds and despite a couple of low scores in between, I'm in a good place and will hopefully score many more runs this season.
Echoing Bragg's comments David Lloyd commented, I'm delighted my immediate future is with Glamorgan, I've enjoyed my opportunities in the first-team and this season is going quite well so far, personally I feel like my game has come on and I'm enjoying the environment, there's a good vibe in the dressing room and we're keen to push on in both the four-day games and in one-day cricket.
We've a good balance in the team, with a mix of experience and some younger players and the senior players are always on hand to provide tips and support to those less experienced
Both Will and David have big roles to fill as part of our first-team plans this year and in the future, so we're pleased both players have committed to the club, commented Hugh Morris, Glamorgan chief executive and director of cricket.
Will has made some key contributions in limited-overs and Championship cricket over the last 12 months and he is benefitting from working hard on his batting.
David Lloyd has shown his ability with both bat and ball for Glamorgan, and a maiden first-class 50 this season will have meant a lot to him. Hopefully it gives him the confidence to gain a regular starting spot in the first team and get more runs in the future.
Our long term strategy is to produce more talent from both North and South Wales, so this news is a boost for the two players, the club and aspiring young cricketers dreaming of helping the club fly the flag for Wales.
