Will Bragg will captain a young Glamorgan side at Newport\'s Spytty Park tomorrow as the Welsh county take on Pakistan A in a 50-over match.
Newport-born Bragg, who has not featured in Glamorgan's NatWest T20 Blast campaign this season, but who has scored valuable runs in the four-day and 50-over competitions, has been named skipper of a 13-man squad to make the trip to Gwent.
The squad includes opening batsmen Nick Selman and James Kettleborough, while Ruaidhri Smith – who made his One Day International debut for Scotland a fortnight ago – faces a late fitness test after a minor back problem.
Academy graduates Jack Murphy, Jeremy Lawlor and Dewi Penrhyn Jones are also named in the party, as well as spin duo Andrew Salter and Owen Morgan.
There may also be first-team debuts for ex-Gloucestershire wicket-keeper Cameron Herring and 18-year-old Carmarthenshire-born seamer Lukas Carey, who make the squad.
Bragg, 29, welcomed a change of scenery for Glamorgan as he heads back to his hometown.
He said: "Newport is a well-run club and it's a good ground to stage first-class cricket at. There's always a nice, consistent wicket and it also spins, so it should be a good test against Pakistan A.
"It's a nice change to play at an out ground and it should be a good atmosphere."
Bragg is also keen to use the match as an opportunity to continue his own stellar form, having score more than 600 runs in the Specsavers County Championship, the highlight being his 162 against Essex at The SSE SWALEC in May.
He added: "I've often started off the season well and not seen it through so the challenge for me is to continue my form."
"I need to be consistent throughout the year and maintain my form because I've done pretty well with 600 runs in red-ball cricket, while I'm averaging 49 in the One-Day Cup."
Glamorgan's assistant coach and performance analyst David Harrison, who was born in Newport, said it was a golden opportunity for the Welsh county's youngster – as well as a great occasion for the city.
He said: "I think it's a great reward for the work they've put in in Newport. It'll be an opportunity for the younger lads in the squad to get some really good experience playing against an international A side."
Entry to Spytty Park tomorrow is free, with the game getting underway at 10.30am.
