Captain Cooke extends stay at Glamorgan

Glamorgan Cricket can announce that captain and wicketkeeper, Chris Cooke, has put pen to paper and signed a new two-year deal with the club.

It means the Glamorgan stalwart will stay with the Welsh county until at least the end of the 2023 season.

Cooke has been one of the mainstays of the Glamorgan side since he signed in 2011 and has gone on to make 280 appearances for the club across all formats, scoring 8,658 runs, as well as taking 259 catches.

He was awarded his county cap in 2016 and in 2018 was appointed as the club’s vice-captain before taking over the captaincy a year later.

Last season he picked up the Glamorgan Player of the Year award after he top-scored for the club in the Bob Willis Trophy and was named in the PCA Team of the Year for his efforts with both bat and gloves.

He recorded three half-centuries in his 294 runs as well as 18 dismissals in the Bob Willis Trophy, with a further two fifties and 221 runs in the Vitality Blast. Overall, Cooke sits in second place in most runs scored by a Glamorgan player in T20 cricket with 1,880 runs, behind only Colin Ingram.

On signing his new contract, Chris Cooke, said: “I’m delighted to put pen to paper and represent the Daff for at least the next three seasons.

"We have an incredibly talented squad and I’m genuinely excited to be a part of it. I’d also like to repay the faith the club has shown in me by continuing to help build a squad ready to challenge for silverware."

Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, said: “Chris has had a major impact on the club since he joined us, and we’re absolutely delighted he’s agreed to extend his contract.

“He’s turned himself into a very good wicket-keeper and although he’s easily one of the most destructive batsmen on the county circuit, he reads the game incredibly well and plays the match situation.

“He consistently puts in performances across all three formats and in the last couple of years has become the true leader of this team.”
