Carlson signs contract extension at Glamorgan

Batsman Kiran Carlson has signed a two-year contract extension, which will keep him at the club until at least the end of the 2022 season.

The 21-year-old Glamorgan Pathway product made nine first XI appearances in 2019, and scored a century in a session in the opening Specsavers County Championship fixture of the season against Northamptonshire.

Over the course of his Glamorgan career, Carlson has hit four First-Class centuries, alongside two List A half-centuries.

He took 5/28 on his First-Class debut against Northants in 2016, and hit a career-best 191 against Gloucestershire in the final home game of the 2017 season.

His T20 career-best score came against Surrey in front of the Sky cameras when he struck 58 from 32 balls as Glamorgan secured a memorable victory at The Kia Oval in 2018.

Carlson also became the youngest player in Glamorgan history to score a First-Class century when he scored 119 against Essex in 2016, aged 18 and 119 days.

“I’m really excited to re-sign for Glamorgan,” said Carlson. “I’ve loved playing here, the dressing room environment we have is amazing and it’s a really fun place to come and play cricket.

“I’m also excited to get stuck in again and work with Matt and the staff, and do what I can to kick on and secure a place in a strong batting unit.”

Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, said: “Kiran is one of our pathway products, and he’s a really exciting young talent so we’re delighted to have him signed up for another two years.

"We see a long term plan in Kiran, and we look forward to seeing him develop alongside his studies. He's absolutely got the ability to be a standout player in first-class cricket."
