Kent bowler Matt Coles has been suspended by the ECB following an incident in the County Championship match versus Glamorgan earlier this week.
The England and Wales Cricket Board’s Cricket Discipline Commission (CDC) today confirmed that Coles has received an automatic suspension, while Glamorgan's Chris Cooke and Nottinghamshire's Stuart Broad have received penalties under the ECB’s Directives.
Coles was reported by umpires Nick Cook and Rob Bailey during Kent’s Specsavers County Championship match against Glamorgan on 1st – 4th May 2016, for a Level Two breach of the code (throwing the ball at or near a player, umpire or official in an inappropriate and dangerous manner).
He had previously received two ECB penalties in the past two year, so Coles has therefore received a total of twelve penalty points, triggering an automatic suspension. He is suspended from all cricket under the jurisdiction of the ECB until and including Wednesday 18th May 2016 – a period which covers Kent’s next two matches.
Broad was reported by umpires Richard Kettleborough, Michael Gough and Richard Illingworth during Nottinghamshire’s Specsavers County Championship match against Yorkshire on 1st – 4th May 2016, for a Level One breach of the code (showing dissent at an umpire’s decision by word or action).
Cooke was reported by the umpires during the same Kent v Glamorgan match as Coles, for a Level One breach of the code (abuse of cricket ground, equipment and/or fixtures and fittings).
The two players will both receive a reprimand, but no suspension or fine.
