County Cricket returns to Pontypridd

10 May 2019 | Cricket

Glamorgan 2nd XI meet their counterparts from Surrey at Ynysangharad Park next Tuesday, May 14th, in a Second Eleven Trophy match as the Welsh county play their first match at Pontypridd for twenty years.

Ynysagharad Park was laid out during the 1920s as a memorial to those who died from the local area during the Great War, with Glamorgan playing their inaugural match at the ground in 1926. Cricket however was played in the town long before this with records of games and practices being staged in Pontypridd from the mid-19th century.

In all, Glamorgan staged 43 first-class games at Pontypridd up until 1996, in addition to 9 List A games between 1970 and 1999, with their last one-day game being the National League contests against Surrey. The Welsh county also staged 2nd XI cricket at the ground on a regular basis until 1998.

Once again, live ball-by-ball scores will be available on the NV Play Cricket site at http://live.nvplay.com/ecb/
