Cricket Club plans a season of celebrations to mark 175th anniversary

Cowbridge Cricket Club has an illustrious history and this year the Club will be celebrating the 175th anniversary of the club's first recorded fixture in 1840.
The first event will be a special dinner at the Pavilion on April 17 at which former Cowbridge, Glamorgan and England player, Hugh Morris, is the principal guest. Hugh was the first managing director of the England cricket team and is now chief executive and director of cricket at Glamorgan. Charles Dagnall of BBC Test Match Special is also speaking at the Pavilion dinner.

On May 28, the club is holding a golf day at The Vale of Glamorgan Resort, but the highlight of the year, in cricketing terms, will be the visit of MCC to play a special game against Cowbridge on July 24.

On August 9, the President's Lunch will precede a replay of the 1840 Cup game against Cowbridge's first opponents, Bridgend. The cricket club is keen to encourage as many people as possible to get into the 'anniversary spirit'.

Commenting on the club's plans for this season, the president Jeffrey Bird said: It promises to be great fun.

We have lined up the sort of events that will be enjoyed by many. If anyone would like to be involved, please call me on 07976 793 629.
