Cricket is the game for me, me and me

‘Cricket is the game for me, me and me’ is a temporary exhibition in the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket at the headquarters of Glamorgan Cricket at Sophia Gardens, Cardiff celebrating the diversity of participants in the summer game across Wales, especially the involvement of families and young people under the age of 25.

The exhibition is part of the Winter of Well-being Scheme overseen by Amgueddfa Cymru and the Welsh Museum Federation which , with the generous support of the Welsh Government, has provided funding and support to the museum sector to deliver a programme of events and activities developed with, and for, children and young people between December 2021 and March 2022. It also includes online content on the revamped website - developed by Orangeleaf Systems - for the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket as well as a community event later in March in the Grangetown area of Cardiff.

Video testimonies have been gathered from young people associated with a number of clubs throughout Wales, including Builth Wells, Cardiff, Hawarden Park, Llandarcy, Newport Fugitives, Penarth and Ynsystawe, especially those participating in the ECB’s All Stars and Dynamos initiative, as well as comments from older members of cricket clubs, including the Sporting Memories clubs based at Pontypridd and Rogerstone Welfare.

A number of schools have also contributed artwork and quotes for the exhibition celebrating the global family of family, as well as the promotion of healthy lifestyles and active participation in recreational activity, with Year 7 and 8 pupils at Fitzalan HS, plus the Year 5 classes at Grangetown PS, Lansdowne PS and Ysgol Treganna all creating content for the ‘Cricket is the game for me, me and me’ exhibition.

“It has been very exciting to work with a diverse range of cricket communities throughout Wales,” said Andrew Hignell, the Curator of the CC4 Museum of Welsh Cricket, “as well as working with some of the local schools where there is a real passion for cricket. The exhibition and the online content all convey this deep love of the game amongst young people, as well as the benefits of taking part in healthy recreation.”

“This chimes perfectly with the aims of the Winter of Well-being Scheme and, with the 2022 cricket season poised to commence, it is further evidence of the healthy state of the game at grassroots level, as well as highlighting the importance of equality, diversity and inclusion in Welsh cricket.”

“A group of young people, aged 25 and under, have also been involved in the planning and creation of the exhibition as well as the online content, and I am very grateful for their input, with their ideas all helping to produce some attractive and stimulating material both here at the Museum and online.”
