Robert Croft has been encouraged by Glamorgan\'s bright start to the Natwest T20 Blast, and thinks the influence of Dale Steyn and Shaun Tait can help his young stars to shine.
After a comfortable five wicket win over Hampshire at the SSE SWALEC Stadium last Friday, Glamorgan sit top of the South Group.
Croft said: “We're pretty pleased with how it's gone so far, other than the blip against Essex. We've got a mix of young and old, which is exciting.”
When it comes to that experience, it doesn't come much better than Steyn and Tait, two stars of the world game.
Croft said: “The crowds are coming to see the ball hurtling down at 90 mph, These are two guys who've done it on the world stage.
“When it comes to T20, Shaun is one of the world's best ever. In terms of what we wanted, you couldn't have asked for two better names.
“They're calm individuals who can have fitted in really well. They've played in the IPL, World T20's, I'm sure our lads will be keen to glean any information off them.”
Indeed, it is the performances of many of Glamorgan's youngsters that has excited the coach.
He said: “We've played some fearless cricket at times. The game is going forwards, not backwards, and you have to have that positive attitude.
“Aneurin [Donald] has lit the touchpaper for us. You pick young talent on their potential, so to see them deliver is really good.
“But we have our feet firmly on the ground, it's a long campaign and there'll be peaks and troughs.”
Glamorgan are next in T20 action on Friday night, when they take on Gloucestershire at the Bristol County Ground.
Their next home game in the competition is against Kent Spitfires on Friday June 17, starting at 6.30pm. Secure your seats for the game by clicking here.
