Head Coach Robert Croft has hailed the signing of Australian Joe Burns for the rest of Glamorgan’s Vitality Blast campaign.
Shaun Marsh was ruled out of the competition through injury but the Club has acted swiftly to bring in Burns as his replacement and Croft is excited by the new addition to the squad.
“Joe will bring much needed firepower to our team, now that Shaun Marsh has gone home and the loss of David Lloyd through a finger injury and he’ll bring expertise and experience to our team,” said Croft.
“It’s a brilliant effort by the club to react so quickly to the setbacks that we’ve had. It’s great to have someone so quick and hopefully ready for Friday night.
“This competition comes thick and fast after next week. We play a load of games in a short period of time and you need as many quality players available to pick from at any one time.”
Burns arrives in Wales later today and is expected to play in Glamorgan’s match at Sophia Gardens against local rivals Somerset on Friday night. With the Welsh county dramatically defeating Essex Eagles on Friday night from the last ball of the game to sit with two wins from three, Croft is expecting a fantastic atmosphere in the Welsh capital.
“It’s a local derby between us and I’m sure they’ll bring a few across the bridge and our aim for this competition is to keep improving and hopefully we’ll but in a good performance on Friday night.
“It’s a fantastic atmosphere here and there’s the guy with the trumpet that keeps blowing his horn to keep us motivated and we love playing and putting on a show.”
