Cullen and Morgan extend stay with Glamorgan

Glamorgan Cricket are pleased to announce that wicket-keeper Tom Cullen and all-rounder Owen Morgan have signed one-year contract extensions with the club.

Cullen enjoyed a breakthrough season with the Welsh county when he stepped in for the injured Chris Cooke during the Specsavers County Championship.

The 27-year-old made match-winning contributions during the campaign, which included a 2nd innings half-century in the tense two-wicket win away against Derbyshire.

He struck over 300 first-class runs in the season at an average over 35, including four half-centuries.

Cullen also captained the 2nd XI and led the side to the 2nd XI T20 title at Arundel, scoring 41 in the semi-final.

“This season we’ve turned things around and are moving in the right direction,” said Cullen. “To have played a role in that gives me a great deal of satisfaction.

“I just want to look to stay hungry, keep playing games and look to contribute to more success for the club next year. That’s what it’s all about at the end of the day.”

Swansea-born Morgan (25) is a product of the Glamorgan Academy and in 2016 became the first Glamorgan nightwatchman to make a century when he helped the Welsh county defeat Worcestershire at New Road.

Over his career, he has made 21 first-class appearances, scoring 638 runs and taking 15 wickets. He made his List A debut for Glamorgan against Pakistan A at Newport in 2016 and his T20 debut for the club in this year’s opening Vitality Blast fixture against Somerset.

“Glamorgan is the only county I’ve ever wanted to play for,” said Morgan. “I love playing here and I’m looking forward to getting stuck in and working hard for the team.

“Hopefully I can impress the coaches over the winter and continue to put in strong performances and force with my way into the first team next year.”

Director of cricket, Mark Wallace, added: “Tom made some important contributions throughout 2019 and we are looking forward to his continued development as a professional cricketer.

“He’s starting to understand what it takes to make a career at the top level and we want to help him reach his potential.

“Owen has shown a willingness to adapt to whatever role he is thrown, whether that’s as an opening bowler in the Blast or an opening batsman in the County Championship, and his ability to learn and engage with coaches makes him really coachable.

“We believe he’s got what it takes to become an important member of the team.”
