Durham will be Glamorgan’s next opponents as the Welsh county travel to the Emirates Riverside in Chester-le-Street for their LV=Insurance County Championship match which is scheduled to commence at 10.30 am on Sunday, 5th September. (writes Andrew Hignell)

Glamorgan will be looking to bounce back after their innings defeat by Essex against a Durham team who have not had any matches since 19th August when they were beaten by the Welsh county in the Royal London Cup Final at Trent Bridge following the cancellation last week of their Championship encounter with Surrey owing to an outbreak of COVID-19 in the Surrey camp.

Glamorgan will also be hoping for better weather at the Riverside ground compared with their most recent visit at the end of the 2019 season when just 86.4 overs were possible because of rain across the four days before the contest with Durham was abandoned as a soggy draw shortly before 9am on the final morning.

They also lost by nine wickets when they visited Durham’s headquarters at Chester-le-Street in 2017 - this had been their first visit to the ground for a four-day game since May 2004. In that game seventeen years ago, Glamorgan emphatically won by 201 runs with Michael Powell making 124, whilst David Harrison and Alex Wharf each claimed five-wicket hauls as Glamorgan eased to victory inside three days.

This was the third victory in successive seasons for the Glamorgan side on Durham soil having also won in September 2003 at the Chester-le-Street ground by 369 runs, and again in 2002 by ten wickets. Michael Kasprowicz was the star of both victories, with the Australian claiming 9/45 in the match in 2003 after Mark Wallace, Michael Powell and Matthew Maynard had each made hundreds.
