England women's cricketers Kate Cross, Danielle Hazell, Heather Knight and Lauren Winfield visited Chance to Shine schools across the North East Wales this week to inspire pupils to play cricket and encourage them to come along and watch them in action during the Women's Ashes NatWest Twenty20 International match at the SWALEC Stadium on August 31.
The visit, which is part of the players' role as Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassadors, gave the England women's quartet a chance to deliver a Women's Ashes themed day of cricket activity for pupils, to help build excitement around this summer's NatWest T20I between England women and Australia women in Cardiff in August.
Speaking about the visit to North East Wales, Heather Knight said: I look forward to visiting Chance to Shine schools in Wales and helping to inspire the pupils at each of them to choose cricket. In addition, it was a perfect opportunity to spread the word in Wales about the Women's Ashes NatWest T20I at the SWALEC Stadium on August 31. This summer we are aiming to win our third consecutive Women's Ashes series against Australia, and we want all the support we can get. We love playing in front of big passionate crowds, so hopefully this will be the case in Cardiff in August.
My role as a Chance to Shine Coaching Ambassador is brilliant, as it allows me to combine playing international cricket with the opportunity to really make a difference at the grassroots of the game.
Following the morning session at St Peter's School in Wrexham, the England women's players travelled to Flintshire, to deliver a secondary school session for selected girls from the area at Hawarden High School, and an after school club session at Bryn Coch School. The day finished with the four England women's cricketers helping at a new girls hub session at Mold Cricket Club.
