Final day heroics from Adil Rashid in only his third Test innings almost helped England save the second Test in Dubai.
England came within 6.3 overs of saving the match only for Yasir Shah to finally finish them off when he took the wicket of Adil Rashid.
The Yorkshireman faced 172 balls and batted for almost four hours to take the game into the final half hour of the day, scoring his maiden half-century, to re-create a defiance reminiscent of the Cardiff Ashes in 2009.
However, unlike Collingwood and Panesar Rashid finally made a mistake when he tried to drive through a crowd of catchers and picked out cover.
Pakistan were overjoyed at going 1-0 up in the series, but were also relieved, having reduced England to 193 for 7 shortly after lunch, they struggled to get through the tail on an increasingly slow surface.
Stuart Broad, Mark Wood and James Anderson diligently supported Rashid in taking the game deep into the final session.
England return to The SSE SWALEC in Cardiff in 2015 for Royal London One-Day Internationals against Sri Lanka and Pakistan.
