First Virtual Members' Forum held

1 May 2020 | Cricket

Thursday, 30th April saw Glamorgan hold our first Virtual Members' Forum.

The Club would like to say thanks to all those Members who attended and asked questions - we hope that you were able to gain further insight into how the club is operating and plans to operate in the coming months.

Members will have received an email with the link to the full video. If any Member has not received this link, please email info@glamorgancricket.co.uk with their Membership Number.

Our panel consisted of Hugh Morris, Huw Warren, and Mark Wallace, and they answered questions on a range of topics from membership to club finances.

During his opening remarks, Hugh Morris paid tribute to Gerallt Davies, a member of the Welsh Ambulance Services Trust who was a key part of the operational success of games held at St Helen's, Swansea, and to Peter Walker, the Glamorgan legend, both of whom sadly passed away recently. The Club hopes to properly honour Peter and his contribution to the game of cricket in the near future.

Here is a summary of some of the 'highlights' from the forum:

Finances:

  • The ECB moved really quickly, and the injection of cash so quickly was a massive benefit. The money that was distributed had already been budgeted for, but it was brought forward and helped with cash flow.
  • 14 staff still working full-time, 85% of the club’s full-time have been furloughed

Cricket

  • The Club has been in constant discussions with Marnus Labuschagne over his situation, and the viability of coming over in 2020 alongside potential international commitments
  • Marnus sees playing for Glamorgan as a huge part of this game, and part of the reason for his current success
  • The players have become quite self-sufficient with regards to their S&C programmes, as Tom Turner (S&C coach) educates them during the winters

Operations and Membership:

  • The Club are looking at upgrading live streaming capacity and capability. This depends on ECB’s broadcast deal and commercial rights, but the Club will aim to stream as many games as possible.
  • Options around Membership will be shared once the ECB confirm what the season schedule looks like, and updates for the AGM will be shared once the board confirms further details and the situation becomes more feasible.
